This was done mainly by hand file
around the edges.
Only the drivers door
required a new
bottom panel. Here the area to be
cut out is marked.
Door prepared for the new
bottom
panel.
New bottom panel MIG welded
in
place.
Numerous tacks and short seam
welds were used.
After stripping off any
remaining
paint, both doors were treated with
"Metal Ready Rust Remover" from
FROST. Followed by rinsing in
water and dried inside the house.
Zinc Rich Primer, also from
FROST,
used for the first coat of paint.
A coat of high build primer
is
applied, followed by hand painted
zinc primer along the most vulnerable
bottom section.
After a 2nd coat of white
primer
the doors are trial fitted minus skins.
Note: all painting by brush or aerosol
up to this stage.
The skins were fitted using
a section
of kitchen work top resting on the
garage floor and a standard hammer
to gradually bend the lip over.
In this picture, the quarter light
area is MIG welded.
Seam sealer / semi-
structual glue
was applied prior to folding the
lip over.
First coat of Bonda Primer
applied using a compressor.
